The site being contoured, the design spans over four levels. We enter the farmhouse at level two which has the common facilities like foyer, living, dining, kitchen, swimming pool and deck with master bedroom. The next two levels house guest rooms, sit-outs and gazebos; while the top most level has a meditation pavilion.
The client’s vision was to extend and refurbish his heritage winery into a boutique resort nestled in an established vineyard with the panoramic dam view. Accompanying this was a desire for a hospitality experience that celebrated their wine production. He wanted a building that would engage, evoke and establish a dialogue with the exiting surroundings.
Set against a lush green backdrop, the structure evolves from the ground and merges with the surrounds. It is a reaction to the existing contours so as to minimize the impact on ecology. The dynamic form twists and turns along the natural contours adding new surprises and boosting the creative minds of the students.
The intervention attempts to celebrate Taj Mahal as an epitome of an architectural poetry and physical manifestation of a soulful proposition of the mighty builder Shah Jahan. Whereas, the Black Taj reveals its emptiness through three-dimensional spatial projection. The emptiness holds the space, where the people are purged and aligned by the ecstatic illumination and perfection of Taj Mahal.
The living and working areas are contained in 2 buildings connected by a walkway. The horse-saddle roof doubles up over the brick vault for shade from the tropical sun. Thick brick walls with natural limestone rendering on the east and west side reflect solar radiation to keep the house cool. – Meister Varma Architects
The major requirement was to create a consolidated proposal wherein all these curricular activities houses under one roof within a square site at the south-west side of the school property.
Y House, designed by BAD, is located in a sub-urban village in South Lebanon. The site presents a natural asset of greenery and inspiring smooth topography overlooking amazing 360’ of views.
As a form, the building allows for a deep forecourt to bring in light and ventilation to the central parts of the building. A shallow lotus pond would cool the gentle breeze that flows through the home’s ample windows and ventilators.

Given that the monument sits in a rural setting, its immediate surroundings are not particularly welcoming. In response, we have enclosed the site with a Gabion wall that provides privacy and guides visitors along a “discovery path” leading to the Memory Monument and the photo gallery all situated within a park-like setting. Crafted entirely out of fine metal, the Memory Monument is in the shape of a “kada” (famously worn as lucky charm by Dr. Vishnuvardhan) stands at a daunting height of 10 metres above the level of lower ground.
