This villa at Manpakkam is formed by simple planar geometry and varying levels of Residence. The clear defined masses and a well delineated geometry of the building gives it a grand facade and an effective system for low building maintainance too. The residence was to be designed for a family of a father, a mother and a teenage son. This residence is located at the sub urban zone with houses located close by with no great scope of views. Hence, one way to give the house a good ambience was to provide views by designing many courts inside the house.
We, at Murali Architects, took it up as a very serious effort and did it as free cosultancy without charging. We felt that the dead requires a better respect than the ones that is been offered at present electric crematoriums. we created series of pyramids and mandapams on the banks of the river cauvery which will create the desired moods to gather, cry, mourn, pray, pay respects, do the last rites and part with heart filled with the wonderful thoughts of the departed.
The design solution aims at creating an open plan, wherein the elderly mother can manage and entertain the children successfully throughout the day till Mrs.&Mr.Justin who are IT professionals come back home. There is a study planned at the mid level and two bedrooms in the upper level.
The clients turned out as NATURE LOVERS and had good beliefs in concepts like recycling, conserving energy, and use of natural materials etc. They wanted a house that shared its space with nature, native plants, birds, and hugged natural cycles, ecology and order to its bosom.
This 2000Sq.ft interior project has a bright and inviting colour scheme off-white, yellow and grey. The colour scheme and the use of glazed and partly glazed partitions is to create a feeling of spaciousness. The design approach here was to go beyond rigid compartmentalized sterile interior design. The focus was exploring curvilinear forms and spaces.
Abstract, geometric, angular, twisted with rough and smooth surfaces a house that will trigger curiosity and intrigue. House that has variations in terms of light and shade , colour, form, etc. This residence at Indira Nagar for a family of six, contains many levels with a swimming pool at the terrace, shuttle court, sauna, jacuzzi and other facilities.
The exterior fa?ade, studded with small vertical slits, brings in ventilation while it protectively encases the house to make the house feel occupied all the time. Finally, the terrace has a home theatre and a terrace garden with bold elements.??All in all, a home is not one until you feel belonged. And, Mrs. Uma Gopinath and her family believe that they have found theirs.
We had only 18 feet width at the front side to work with. Our client, Dr. Shankar Mohana Selvan , is a fine person, who encouraged our ideas and gave us creative freedom. Of course, we had CMDA constraints to deal with. Finally, GINGER HOTELS-TATA GROUP, liked it and now, we are in a 33 year lease with them. – Murali Architects
One can imagine how a child will be lost in the world of colors and shapes as the building itself reflects liveliness and activity among the children. When you are down looking at the niches and the shapes down on the floor one finds numerous interesting lights and shadows created by the cutouts on the wall. It makes the child think of such possibilities and how different it looks form the usual concrete boxes that they are so used to seeing everywhere they go.
It’s a residence for Doctor family at Erode, Periyar District in 5500 sq.ft property.The clients are calm,green loving not partying. They love to hangout at home than going out. “Home” becomes everything for them.They wanted a simple vastu based self contained house. son and daughter are also Medical students who wanted more unwinding spaces to relieve their work and study pressures which resulted in courtyards connecting every bedroom at different levels and terrace garden at roof level.
Surrounded by buildings all around, in a tightly packed residential layout with a narrow 20’ wide road at the front, calls for internal playing / interacting/socializing and natural spaces. Very understanding co-operative client and his family allowed us to explore different types of spaces, materials and detailing.
Located in a four ground property along the East Coast Road , 300 feet from the beach front in an area called Juhu beach. It needs to accommodate two grand parents and Mrs.&Mr.Rekha Thangappan and the two children.
