With the client’s requirements for a comfortable living round the day, residence B-5, located on the peripheral areas of the city with a need for enhanced security, finds its design solutions around basic lines of modern architecture.
The Nepal earthquake and its aftershocks during April – May 2015 resulted in widespread destruction of lives and property. With the fragile hill road infrastructure badly affected across districts, transportation of relief, goods and services were restricted, making the re-construction effort a daunting task, especially in rural areas far from urban centers.
A close-knit layout has been adopted for the entire office. The transition from the lift lobby is marked by two passageways that are perpendicular to each other. One passageway leads to all the management cabins, that open up further into a well-lit collaboration space.
Jain residence was designed as a house for a multigenerational family in a plotted neighbourhood in Gurgaon. The architectural intent was to create an array of comfortable living spaces where each room is supplemented with a semi open adjacent space that is worked into the elevation of the building.
Funktion Design is an expression of an interesting structural language. The main supporting structure is casted by three 9m x 8m concrete portals on which three steel portals form the framework supporting the steel deck roofs of the studio level and the meeting zone.
Built as an introverted vault, the solid sandstone façade makes a bold statement with an elegant surface detailing in gold steel. The entrance is marked by a delicately detailed 30 feet high glass door, allowing a glimpse inside generating curiosity. It opens into a reception area with a customised elliptical red glass elevator wrapped by the spiral staircase as an iconic centrepiece.
Sprouts project was initiated with the idea ‘when the seeds begin to sprout’. The objective was to create a landmark through a series of installations signifying growth, development and progress.
