The Judgment of the Delhi High Court in CWP 934 of 2012 (Sudhir Vohra Ver the Ministry of Corporate Affairs ) is the result of the classic neglect of the Council of Architecture ( COA)’s towards PROFESSIONAL matters.
The concept was visualized with denim and things which are used or related to produce a finished denim product from a raw material. So the objective rather became to use elements like threads, scissors, denim cloth and other elements which are used in abstract way to create a journey.
Located in the cultural hub of the city, in close proximity with all prominent infrastructure of Delhi, the urban scape is transformed into an icon for fashion and design. The proposed design is the juxtaposition of fashion’s ability to seduce and manufacture desires with the complex structuring of neutral spaces to allow for a multiplicity of users and events.
One of the first decisions jointly taken by the clients and the design team lead by SpaceMatters was to locate the pavilion in public urban spaces. While this may seem like an obvious choice, similar cultural events in India have been largely confined to institutional spaces such as museums and cultural centres.
The approach explores the flexibility available in the clever repetition of a module. The project, being precast pods, can be executed with speed and allows for a number of units that can be configured to suit individual requirements of space for individual families over time. – Sameep Padora and Associates
The living and working areas are contained in 2 buildings connected by a walkway. The horse-saddle roof doubles up over the brick vault for shade from the tropical sun. Thick brick walls with natural limestone rendering on the east and west side reflect solar radiation to keep the house cool. – Meister Varma Architects
Jain residence was designed as a house for a multigenerational family in a plotted neighbourhood in Gurgaon. The architectural intent was to create an array of comfortable living spaces where each room is supplemented with a semi open adjacent space that is worked into the elevation of the building.
The rectangular plot was a constraint in itself as a small width remained after leaving the necessary margins. So the plan was spread with courtyards between the pavilions along a north south passage. The total cost predicted at design stage was 65 lakhs, the project was completed in 70 lakhs.
