‘When is Space?’ intends to investigate the contemporary modes and methods of architecture and space making practices in India. Through provocations that emerge from ideas of Sawai Jai Singh and Charles Correa, the exhibition invites artists and architects to respond through spatial interventions within JKK.

What does it take for space to happen? Can mathematical logics be mobilised to (re)invent form and space? What happens when established built-form and landscape typologies are interrogated and transformed? Can there be an urban form that can afford the multiplicity of the collective? ‘When is Space?’ positions these inquiries at the centre of this exhibition, by bringing together multiple and diverse responses, conceived as one large project.

Through personal anecdotes, they illuminated Stein’s meticulous design philosophy, deep ecological sensitivity, and understated humanity across three landmark projects: Triveni Kala Sangam, India Habitat Centre, and the Sher-I-Kashmir International Conference Centre (previously Kashmir Conference Centre).
