Mumbai was the first city in India to have heritage regulations to protect its living heritage. This listing and the corresponding regulations binding these precincts would also protect these old areas from burdening the fragile infrastructure with high-rise buildings. These precincts, more than individual structures, puts forward each city’s uniqueness. Heritage awareness is certainly increasing on paper with more nominations of World Heritage Site ensembles. But in reality, its protection on the ground is decreasing at an alarming rate.

Built across an enormous 3500 square feet, this stellar project exemplifies the vocabularies of big, bold, and beautiful in and out of the ordinary fashion. Designed by Ar. Abhigyan Neogi, Principal Architect & Founder- Chromed Design Studio, this residence is a concoction of design styles fusing one into another and consequently delivering an intricate space. Located in Punjabi Bagh, Delhi this phenomenal residence follows a contemporary design style typically offset by neutral colors. It is a modern interpretation of Indian dwellings that melds historic elements with current lifestyle concepts. Bivacco Bredy is the winning proposal from an invited competition organized by YACademy and Cantieri d’Alta Quota on behalf of the Brédy family. Developed by BCW Collective, the design is a specific solution for a high altitude site in the Italian region of Valle d’Aosta, near the Laghi di Dzioule, two small alpine lakes at 2500m elevation in the secluded Vertosan Valley.
Chennai is hot, dusty and mosquito-ridden – said Viju Mahtaney in his brief for luxury apartments in the posh Boat Club road neighborhood. A testament to urbanization in India today. Chennai has a river that is clogged with sewage that breeds mosquitoes. Traffic and construction create unending dust and pollution – and buzzing entrepreneurship needs neighborhoods like Boat Club Road to attract the talent and investment that churns the wheels of the city. – SJK Architects
Nestled amidst a sprawling plot, this residence is designed such that minimal heat could penetrate inside but at the same time maximum natural light and ventilation floods the interior spaces. The site nests in the outskirts from the main city, in a developing residential area, with the north-east, southeast & south -west side abutting the road.
The ‘House That Rains Light’ re-imagines dappled shade under the trees, informal kids play nooks, gardens with flowers, birds and butterflies, all lost to rapid urbanization, while being confined to a tight plot within a typical residential layout.
Owners, a young couple with their two kids, wanted a house that broke free from conventions, displaying a sense of individuality and character in the spaces that enveloped them, without being a burden on their simple ways of living. They also hoped the building would transcend the small footprint on site and become a multi-spatial/sensory experience for their kids to grow up in. – LIJO.RENY.architects
A lady in a pink saree and a mauve shawl was sat in front of a large sculpted wall, soaking the winter sun with her head bowed. Strangely enough, there are many spaces around this public place designed to relax, but she chose a spot that was not intentionally designed for seating. As architects, we design spaces for use, yet there are uses such as this which is hard to comprehend but it exists as a result of something else. In this particular case it happens to be the Rejuvenation project of the oldest Kali Badi Complex at Mandir Marg, New Delhi

The studio is founded on their experiences comprising a stint at Gehry and Partners. r+d studio witnessed opportunities to rethink their practice procedures, involve in teaching virtually and start-up a new city collaborative initiative called Gurgaon Design Collective. The pandemic was handled by r+d studio with a positive outlook, safety and security of the team and nurturing new tech ideas through their new venture RD Labs.

Zostel at Panchgani, the hostel for backpackers, designed by Madhav Joshi and Associates, is situated near a hill station Panchgani, the strawberry capital of India in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Design has evolved in response to the need of backpackers (18 to 40 years of age) for safe, comfortable and hygienic place to stay at a scenic location while traveling on a shoestring budget.
The office space for Mr. Abhilash is built over a land measuring 2400 sqft in a densely built residential area in Bangalore. The client a young developer, in his brief to ‘IN-GRID’ wanted a small yet iconic office building. He also expressed his love for materials to be seen in their natural self. The project presented us an opportunity to apply and test some new ideas in space, technique and material. Brick, concrete and wood in its exposed state forms the core components of the design.
