
On May 20, 2026, the Centre for Environmental Planning & Technology (CEPT) announced Mumbai-based architect Quaid Doongerwala as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture for a term of three years. Quaid Doongerwala is an architect and educator with over 28 years of experience in architectural practice and design education. Assuming his new position as the Dean, starting July 01, 2026, Quaid will be replacing Prof. Sameep Padora.
His Mumbai-based practice, DCOOP, established in 2003 with Shilpa Ranade, has developed a strong reputation for its context-driven design approach across institutional campuses, housing, retail, and master planning.
Alongside his professional work, Quaid has been deeply engaged with architectural education. He was the Founding Director of the Interior Design program at ISDI Parsons, Mumbai, Visiting Faculty member at KRVIA and the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai and has contributed to academic discourse as a jury member, reviewer, and as the Charles Correa Chair at the Goa College of Architecture.
He is also a founding associate of PUKAR (Partners for Urban Knowledge, Action and Research), an interdisciplinary collective engaged with urban research and practice. His interest in art, culture, films and the city has involved him in several cross disciplinary and multimedia explorations including film, documentation, publications and live urban installations.
An alumnus of CEPT University, Quaid completed his undergraduate degree in architecture before pursuing postgraduate studies in Indian Aesthetics at the University of Mumbai and TU Delft in the Netherlands. Prior to establishing his independent practice, he gained invaluable experience working alongside renowned architects Geoffrey Bawa in Sri Lanka and Rahul Mehrotra in Mumbai.
