Today, a day prior to Republic Day 2023, the Government of India announced the recipients of the Padma awards. This year, six people are being awarded the Padma Vibhushan while nine will be awarded the Padma Bhushan. 

Architect B.V. Doshi, who passed away on January 24, 2023, has been named as one of the posthumous recipients of the Padma Vibhushan Award.

Balkrishna Doshi was India’s first and only Pritzker Awardee. In 2022, he received the Royal RIBA Gold Medal for Architecture. Doshi, an educator and an urbanist, also collaborated closely with Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, and Anant Raje. The Founder Dean of the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT), he also played a significant role in Indian architectural education.
