Courage to be oneself – one quality in a person that would grab the attention of Anupama Kundoo in no time.

Anupama Kundoo's candid replies to some of the non-architectural questions.

While we were quite thrilled by the idea of asking non-architectural questions to some of the leading Indian architects, we were not sure about the response that we would receive from people. To our surprise, the response was overwhelming – we received over 100 non-architectural questions for architects who consented to participate in this series. Most of the questions were for all the architects, so we decided to create a unified list of about 25 shortlisted questions and send it to all architects – giving them a choice to answer minimum seven questions. Below, Anupama Kundoo candidly replies to thirteen questions. Have fun! 🙂

If not an architect, what would you be?
An artist.

What’s the one thing in life that you want just for yourself?
Some time to myself alone daily.

Which architect would you pick to design your clothes?
Why would I pick an architect?

What sort of car suits your personality? A classy sedan, beefy SUV, sporty coupe, restored classic or an urban hatchback?
A motorbike and a bicycle are more my things.

Anupama Kundoo Quote

Can you live without your phone and laptop for a week?
Yes of course. I already lived for years without those things and I have fond memories of those times.

What is the one thing that you hate doing the most?
Having to grade students after they complete their learning period with me.

What’s your favourite number? Does it reflect in your work in some way?
All numbers are connected to each other and the universe. What I like is their interconnectedness and interrelationships through geometry, and those reflect in my work rather than a particular number.

What’s your comfort food?
Khichdi with Begun Bhaja

What’s the one quality in a person that would grab your attention in no time?
Courage to be oneself.

What’s the one thing that you always wanted to do but didn’t find the courage to do?

I mostly found the courage. When you really want to do something, you always come up with the courage.

Which are the books that influenced your thoughts?
Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Thinking, Fast and Slow
The Soul of a Tree;
Architecture without Architects
The Bhagavad Gita
Mahabharat
& many more…

Do you buy your own groceries? If not, who buys it for you?
I am a very hands-on person that way, so yes, I do buy my own groceries.  I cook myself, and I also clean up afterwards 😊
