SHIDA Architecture is an avant-garde socio-architectural think tank with its origins in India, that started sometime during 2005 at Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai. Its main ‘area of concern’ is the possibility of an architecture suited for the emergent consumerism in India post-2020.
A studio environment that fosters independent thought and collaborative interaction, an open, intellectually rigorous culture within an unbound space suffuse with natural light, and a hardy, unadorned material palette with both material and formal allusions to the subject of the structural engineers’ work were the guiding principles behind the new office design.
The design brief was also mainly influenced by the restrictions of the “Eagleton Golf course design guidelines”. “The Eagleton Golf course design guidelines” imposed restrictions on the Building elevation profiles on all the four sides and the overhanging/ cantilevers or any projection on all the four sides as well. Yet we as Architects, Radically explored the maximum possibility in a highly restricted freedom of expression to exercise our unique design skill-set to create a “Unique Home” to reflect the modernist “style and personality” of our Client.
The house, designed by Design by Meta, was envisioned to invoke a strong feeling of Indian contemporary design with an element of surprise and warmth in the architecture of the spaces. With this aspect in mind the design of the spaces and materials have been chosen to create an association of textures, which correspond, to a home.
CnT Architects: The project was to design a multi-dwelling for corporate managers on a site spread across 1.9 acres with large existing trees on the periphery, and low-rise dense residential development in context.
